Parents have many decisions to make regarding the health, education and welfare of their infants and children - who clearly cannot take these decisions for themselves. One of these decisions is whether or not to have a son circumcised.
Whether this decision is for or against circumcision the author explains why it is effectively a decision for life. Although leaving the child uncircumcised gives a theoretical choice to the child to have a circumcision later, this proves illusory in most cases.
